Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass - Sun Loving Bicycle Riders

Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass - Sun Loving Bicycle Riders I think it's a pretty good guess you will see a lot of this activity this weekend. The weather is warming up nicely, so it is time to get those new Christmas bicycles out of the garage. What better place to ride than the Pinellas Trail? I'll show you more of this overpass in another post.

This 'Easy Rider Photography' took place where the Pinellas Trail crosses Alternate Highway 19 in the north end of Dunedin. It's quite near the waterfront here, although not right on it. The road under this overpass will take you south to the Dunedin Causeway, past Pirate's Cove Marina, on to Dunedin Downtown, the Dunedin Marina, Edgewater Drive, and much more. If you go north from here, you come to Tarpon Springs, the Sponge Docks and, again, much more.

Dunedin, Florida: "HALT! Who Goes There?"

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Survey Marker Protection: County Land Survey I came across this sign as I walked around Lake Paloma recently. As I read it, I suddenly got the sensation that I was being watched. Quickly, I checked my feet to make sure they were not standing on a survey marker. I did NOT want to be construed as having endangered the survey marker. That's when a voice bellowed from the bushes, "HALT! Who goes there?!?!"

No, not really... but hey, it could happen! Really though, it's interesting to see this sign. When I bought 45 acres on a mountainside in Washington State, the corners were marked with things like GIANT TREES, and when you hiked through the woods to them, you scrabbled around in the fallen leaves below to find a not-very-well-marked steel pipe or concrete monument. What fun. It's not like that in the city.

Dunedin, Florida: Paper Players: Stationery & Paper Store

Dunedin, Florida: Paper Players: Stationery & Paper Store Here is another of many quaint shops in the Downtown Dunedin area. Paper Players is a stationery and paper store. They have a nice website too. Click here to check it out if you like. It's wonderful how they turned this old home into a home for their store. Very welcoming, like so many shops in Dunedin's Downtown shopping district.

If you would like to see more of this area, check out Clearwater Daily Photo, and Clearwater Beach Daily Photo. If you enjoy photography for the sake of photography, check out my photo blog. Thanks for coming today!

Dunedin, Florida: Neighborhood Christmas Decorations, Finale

Dunedin, Florida: Neighborhood Christmas Decorations, Finale I noticed one of my neighbors still had his decorations lit several days after Christmas, so I stopped to snap a few shots. This display is one of the most elaborate in my neighborhood. It really is something to behold in person. Oh, and there is music playing to add to the spirit of the display.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Dunedin, Florida: Theme Day: Best Photo of 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Dunedin, Florida: Theme Day: Best Photo of 2007: Downtown - Christmas Celebration This picture says a lot about Dunedin. Such a wonderful small town atmosphere, and yet not so small that they can't put on a wonderful wing-ding like this Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration. It was a great time, and I can't wait to see what they do next year. Everyone seemed so friendly and outgoing that night. It was wonderful, and all amidst the neat little shops of that awesome downtown that the City of Dunedin has managed to preserve. What's not to love? :D

May 2008 be a year of love and joy and prosperity for you and all your loved ones!

Dunedin, Florida: Winter? Roller Blading!

Dunedin, Florida: Winter? Roller Blading!
This is an action shot, but not necessarily a good one. It was taken this past Saturday. As you can see, it was a plenty warm day, and these two were thoroughly enjoying winter, Florida style. What's more, notice the Christmas decoration leaning against the stairs behind them. Yup, if you enlarge the photo, you can see clearly that it is a Santa, in shorts and sun glasses. Does that mean Santa vacations in Florida?

I want to wish you all a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration. And I hope that 2008 is a year of Joy and Prosperity for you and your loved ones!

Dunedin, Florida: Lake Paloma Eagle Scout Wildlife Project Pt VIII

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Lake Paloma Eagle Scout Wildlife Project Pt VIII Welcome to Turtle Island! No, probably not a fair name, and certainly not democratically selected, but I like it. As I approached the edge of Lake Paloma today, I counted at least 8 turtles sunning themselves. Not bad. In addition, I have seen as many as 4 long legged wading birds out there at one time. Cool. The turtles seem to be of maybe three species that I can see. I think there are Snappers, Eastern Sliders (or something like them), and Soft Shelled. Some of them are BIG!

I promised to list the sponsors of Jim Garrison's Eagle Project, so here we go, in no particular order: Angelo's Pizza, Vision Ace, Signs Now, Collman-Karsky, Joseph E. Garrison CPA, Thornton Donoghue & Assoc., Eddie's Bar & Grill, Danny's Food & Spirits, Sweetbay Supermarket, Einstein Brothers Bagels, and of course, The City of Dunedin. I applaud their involvement in this very worthwhile project. Bravo.

It seemed like one picture just wasn't enough today, so here is a second, from a different angle. It seems like these photos just don't do it justice, so look for more pictures of Turtle Island at some point in the future.
