Dunedin, Florida: Homes & Housing

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Homes & Housing I passed this little house while on a walk the other day. I thought what a cute little home. Dunedin has some wonderful neighborhoods that are filled with older homes that come from a time when they did not build them quite so big or so fancy. But they built them cozy and cute and homey.

It pays to get off the main drag and see what the neighborhoods around you are like. It's good to know there are neat little houses out there. After all, you never know when you are going to be in the market. In fact, there is a little house down the street from this one that is one the market for US$188,000. That's a lot in some parts of the country, and not much at all in other parts. What's it like where you live?

Dunedin, Florida: International Mall Field Trip!

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: International Mall Field Trip! International Plaza, International Mall, whatever you want to call it... is still a big, fancy mall with a lot of cool stores, located just across the bay in Tampa. With all the neat stores, I just couldn't resist taking a picture of this dining court area. Not quite the food court, but arranged so you could bring food from nearby to sit and eat. I like it. Yes, that is a Starbucks coffee shop at the top of the picture! You might need some coffee as you make your way through the likes of Nordstrom, Dillard's, and Neiman Marcus!

This is a pretty cool mall, with a sort of add-on called Bay Street. Bay Street is like walking down some cool downtown area with neat shops and restaurants. Some of the restaurants include The Cheese Cake Factory and The Gallery Eclectic Bistro, where we ate that day. It was very good! Oh, and let's not forget the bar... The Blue Martini. The Blue Martini is very popular around here, featuring "25 superior martinis made to excite the senses and elevate the spirit".

Dunedin, Florida: The Welcome To Dunedin Sign

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: The Welcome To Dunedin Sign I was so surprised and chagrined to realize that after 70 posts, I still had not posted a picture of this sign. You can find these signs in a number of places around Dunedin, at the edges, I should say. You can see the Christmas decorations on this one still.

This is just another thing that the City of Dunedin has done so well. They have branded this little city, in a way. Around here, when you see this sign, even if the lettering were gone, you would know it was the Welcome To Dunedin sign. Pretty nice work if you ask me.

And speaking of things the City of Dunedin has done right... Dunedin’s Fifth Annual Diverse-City Week kicks off with a full day of events on Saturday, January 19th. They really put on quite a few Diversity events. Click here to get more information from the City of Dunedin website. While you are there, scroll down a little further for information on a free Sustainability seminar on Energy Conservation.

Dunedin, Florida: Road Work Traffic Cones: Target Practice!

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Road Work Traffic Cones: Target Practice! Now before we go any further, let me be perfectly clear: When I say target practice, I am referring to the TRAFFIC CONES... not the men working on the road. :D

So tell me, be honest now, there is no one here but you and me... when you see those cones lined up in the street like that, don't you want to run them over? I mean, driving down the road, you suddenly spot a long single file of traffic cones... They're sitting there... not moving, just waiting for you. No? Yes? Maybe? Well, I've never done it, but I always get a chuckle when I see them there, waiting for me!

I figure, the bigger your vehicle, the more tempting it is to run them over. And the smaller your vehicle, the more tempting it is to use them as an obstacle course, to see how fast you can swerve back and forth through them to the end of the line.

Dunedin, Florida: Signs On Trucks: Bed Pros

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Signs On Trucks: Bed Pros Mattress Store I know from friends with businesses that it can be hard to get good sign exposure for their business. The subject of car signs comes up a lot, referred to as the last frontier. So I find myself noticing the signage on trucks and cars around me. The times of hand painted lettering on this type of truck are over. It's all about full cover graphics and skins that cover the vehicle.

Do you notice these ads when they are next to you on the road? If you do, does it take away, detract, from the purpose of the ad to have a large gouge in the middle of it? I can see it both ways, what about you? I have my eyes peeled now, to find interesting versions of mobile advertising. And check out the poll -->>>

Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass - Fitness Resolution Inspiration

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass - Fitness Resolution Inspiration Woman On Bike This seemed like a good picture to post today since I have been TAGGED! Yes, RO_Pumpkin, from Brasov Romania has tagged me. It goes something like this: When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) be flippant about them, 3) do it because we feel pressured to, or 4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. Now I am going to tell you about my New Year's resolutions, and then tag a few others for the same thing!

I guess I fit into a fifth category of New Year resolvers. I make them quietly, to myself, and try not to call them resolutions so the formality of it all won't cause too much pressure, or jinx my efforts. So, if you want to call them soft resolutions, that's me. And for 2008, mine sound something like this:

The standards first: I will eat better, I will exercise more, I will speed less, and so forth. Then there are the deeper ones, like I will try to be a better person this year, more the person I think I can be, if only I tried harder. I will not hurt anyone this year, and I will be good for the people I love. I will find ways to make the lives of my loved ones easier, happier, more fulfilling. I will let the love in my heart show more readily, to strangers and friends alike, so that their lives might be just a little better. I will refrain from judgement. I will accept, tolerate, and embrace the differences, opinions, habits, and lifestyles of others around me.

Wish me luck! Now I want to tag a few of my fellow bloggers out there... Jilly, in Menton, France; Dan in McKinney, Texas; Chris in Nashville, Tennessee; and Annie in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Overpass Here is another, wider, view of the overpass we saw in yesterday's post. It is, as you probably noticed, somewhat of a caged affair. I suspect it has to do with making sure nothing gets thrown onto the highway below. And then, it might have to do with making sure nobody can climb over the top and fall. I don't know their actual thinking on this one, I can only guess.

Either way, it beats the heck out of trying to cross busy Alternate Highway 19 directly. It is a busy road, and I am sure this overpass prevents a number of tragedies each year.
