I believe I had just shown you Honeymoon Island Sunset #1, when I interrupted for the Mardi Gras festivities. This beauty is Honeymoon Island Sunset #2. Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. This sunset was cut short by the wall of clouds hanging low over the Gulf of Mexico. If you think it looks wonderful like this, check back tomorrow to see a different dimension of this sunset. :)

Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Parking At Lake Paloma

Very near Lake Paloma there is a parking area designated for the Pinellas Trail. You can park here, for free, and you are just a block and a half from the Pinellas Trail. In fact, the truck in the background, driving away from me, is just about even with where the trail crosses the street here, San Christopher Dr.

I was happy to see this shiny new sign go up recently. In the past, there had been white, individual letters mounted on the bricks. These seemed to have a habit of falling off with some regularity. Or, someone had a habit of pulling them off the bricks. I suspect this nice new sign will have better luck.

DOGS! Dunedin, Florida: BOWser Games III

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

It's finally tomorrow... so today's pictures are all from the BOWser Games event.

The BOWser games were attended by a richly diverse cross section of canine characters. For starters, there were the very young, like this brindle puppy.

Then there were much older dogs, like this handsome (if somewhat sleepy) hound.

Other dogs were of moderate age, but extreme form. Note the VERY skinny Whippet? on the right.

There were HUGE dogs like this one. This was the BIGGEST dog I saw all day. Oh wait, that's NO DOG! That's a miniature DONKEY! He is a very handsome Donkey, by the way, and I would have adopted him from the Humane Society on the spot if I had the right home for him!

DOGS! Dunedin, Florida: BOWser Games And Mardi Parti For Pups II

To Recap: On Saturday, February 9th, Dunedin totally went to the dogs! :) In the morning, there was the Mardi Parti for Pups at Pioneer Park in Downtown Dunedin. Later in the morning, the BOWser Games started, over at Highlander Park. It was all about dogs from 8 AM until 3 PM in the afternoon. Lots of fun for dog lovers!

Here if Florida, I just don't expect to see large hairy monsters like the Siberian Husky? Malamute? above. But there he was, strutting his stuff at the BOWser Games in Dunedin. Now, I don't know that he lives in Dunedin, or Clearwater, but I have to guess that he lives somewhere here in Pinellas County. I did not get a chance to ask the man what his air conditioning bill is like. Let me ask you, do you think they look a little alike, Man and his Dog? (How about those Collies in the top left!)

At first I thought I had just caught the Dalmation, below, taking a break from having lots of fun at the Mardi Parti for Pups. Then I noticed his taped up paw. My heart went out to him. So I was glad he still got to attend the event, and see all the other dogs. So many of them seemed so excited to be able to get together with so many other dogs at one time. I mean hundreds of dogs! (Like the little guy on the bench, looking over the Dalmation.)

On Saturday, February 9th, Dunedin totally went to the dogs! :) In the morning, there was the Mardi Parti for Pups at Pioneer Park in Downtown Dunedin. Later in the morning, the BOWser Games started, over at Highlander Park. It was all about dogs from 8 AM until 3 PM in the afternoon. Lots of fun for dog lovers!

The handsome fellow above was chilling out at the BOWser Games when I arrived in the afternoon. The jaunty canine below was strutting his stuff at the Mardi Parti in the morning. It was amazing to see so many dogs, so many different kinds of dogs, all in one place (two places, really, I guess). Be sure to notice the shoes in each of the photos today. Over the next several days, I will be posting some of my favorite pictures from the two events. I hope you'll come back to see them. :)

Dunedin, Florida: 17th Annual Mardi Gras 2008 V

Welcome back to the finale of Hats of Mardi Gras 2008 - Dunedin, Florida.

These are my two favorite pictures of the event. I saved the best for last. Well, if not the best photographs, technically, then my favorites based on subject matter and expression. Everybody was having a good time, "gettin' their Mardi on". What a blast. The hat above is my abso fav of the bunch. I hope you enjoyed the trip. I will be looking for you there, at Dunedin's Mardi Gras, next year.
