Dunedin, Florida: Waterfront Trail by Edgewater Drive

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Waterfront Trail by Edgewater Drive This is the trail next to Edgewater Drive that follows the waterfront for a few miles. In fact, it starts in Clearwater, at the southern border of Dunedin and will take you all the way north to the Dunedin Marina, just a block from Downtown Dunedin. Pretty cool. It's a beautiful, peaceful place to walk. Great for strolling while you watch the sunset. This is not part of the Pinellas Trail, although it is just as nice.

In this picture, you are looking North, and the Dunedin Marina is just beyond those condos you can see at the left. This was taken just a little before sunset.

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: Wood Trimmed Sail Boat

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: Wood Trimmed Sail Boat As I have admitted before, I don't know an awful lot about sailboats. But I do know when I see one that I like. This one seems like a sweet, simple boat. Clean lines, some beautiful wood trim. I like it.

The boat beyond, what looks like a classic Chris Craft, is pretty nice looking too. These beauties were tied up at the Dunedin Marina when I snapped them. As for me, at the moment my boating world revolves around my kayaks. No wind needed, no fuel for thirsty engines... just me and my paddle, kayaking the peaceful waters of Tampa Bay.

Dunedin, Florida: Alamo Lane Neighborhood

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Alamo Lane Neighborhood This is Alamo Lane. It's not a high priced, fancy neighborhood. It's a NICE neighborhood. I love to walk here when I get a chance. That is Lake Paloma on the right. If you've been here before, you have read about Lake Paloma.

If you found me while searching for Dunedin real estate, that's because I wrote about a house for sale down the street on the left. In fact, if you enlarge the picture by clicking on it, you can see the for sale sign! There are a couple of homes for sale on this block now. I think it would be a really nice place to live.

This location is really convenient, when it comes to Dunedin, real estate wise. From here you can hook up to the Pinellas Trail just a couple of blocks away. And from there, you can ride or walk to downtown in no time. What great fun to head downtown for lunch, just a few minutes from home. Then head over to the Dunedin Marina to see what's going on. Hang out in the park there, or one of the others nearby. Lots of fun!

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina, Rabbit the Scooter

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina, Rabbit the Scooter How strange it was to find this little Scooter, with the name Rabbit on the side, at the Dunedin Marina surrounded by several million dollars worth of yachts and sailboats. But then, we all have to try to conserve somehow, don't we.

Dunedin, Florida: Marker 5, Dunedin Marina, Bald Headed Liars!

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Marker 5, Dunedin Marina, Bald Headed Liars! Would I have found it so interesting without the bumper sticker? Or what if it had been a different bumper sticker? I don't know. But this Channel Marker, #5, with the Bald Headed Liars sticker, from Southern California evidently, got my attention and demanded I snap it. So I did.

Now I have to admit, when I saw the sticker, I thought band... rock band... alternative music band, maybe grunge, or maybe metal. So as I wrote this I did some web searching. As near as I can tell it is a 'motorcycle' club. I say it that way because as near as I can tell, they ride 50cc motorbikes. What we used to call mini-bikes. I think these are a very different kind of mini-bike though. Check out the website if you like. It's not totally complete, not totally breathtaking, but somewhat interesting just the same.

And now a moment for thank-yous and and catch-ups. Kim, of Celina Daily Photo, has very kindly presented me with the "You Make My Day Award". I am delighted that I might be a part of 'making' anyone's day, so I thank her most humbly.
You Make My Day Award
The award rules say: "Give the award to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blogland. Let them know by posting a comment on their blog so they can pass it on. Beware you may get the award several times." So I am considering all the blogs out there that I get a kick out of. When I get caught up on life and so forth, I will present the award accordingly. But this is very difficult as there are many more than ten blogs that I really like. Oy!

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: Harbormaster Office, Fish Market

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: Harbormaster Office, Fish Market It's easy to walk past the Harbormaster's Office without a second glance. After all, there are so many other things to look at when you are at the Dunedin Marina. But if you stop just for a minute and put off gawking at the beautiful boats and yachts and other vessels. And if you hang back from hurrying on to the Pier or the Bon Appetit Restaurant, you might just notice it.

To some it may not be much to look at. But when I stop and notice it, as my camera leads me to, I find an interesting older building. The design triggers many questions in my mind. When was it built? Why the roof like that? And so on. What do you think?

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Pier: Pelican Fly By

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Pier: Pelican Fly By This is one of my favorite photos recently. I was at the end of the Dunedin Marina pier. Just loitering, if you will, looking for photo opportunities. There was a lady fishing. There was lots of gray sky. There were boats. There were two teenage girls taking pictures of each other. They seemed like the kind of pictures you might take for a boyfriend, or these days, for a MySpace page. Who knows. And there were birds, including pelicans.

I watched a pelican dive for fish close to the pier, and switched to the 'sports' setting on my camera. Then I proceeded to experiment tracking moving birds while using the continuous shooting mode. Finally, I got a good line on a pelican as it started up out of the water, and circled the pier. He was heading back to the piling he had been sitting on earlier. Sure enough, his flight path took him right past the two girls. I did not realize this at the time. I had my eye glued to the view finder as I followed him around. As I brought the camera down and reviewed the series in the screen, I chuckled to see the shot above. It really makes a difference in you click on it and see the large version. Kind of fun, eh?

Dunedin, Florida: Bon Appetit Restaurant & Marina Cafe

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Bon Appetit Restaurant & Marina Cafe This is the Bon Appetit Restaurant, and Marina Cafe, entrance. This fine restaurant is located at the north end of the Dunedin Marina. There is also a resort there called the Yacht Harbor Inn. It's a great location, right on the water. It's the perfect place to have a great meal and watch the boats come and go in the Marina.

In fact, I had to walk past this entrance to get out on the pier where I took the picture of the woman fishing. When you walk down the docks near Bon Appetit, heading for the pier for an after dinner stroll, listing closely, and you may hear the parrot in yesterday's post. Tell him I said hi! If you would like to check out their menus, or learn more about the lodgings, click here to visit their website in a new window.

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Boat Guardian Parrot

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Boat Guardian Parrot This handsome bird keeps a close eye on people that come anywhere near his boat. You can see I had to snap this shot through the clear vinyl curtains sheltering him from the weather. But he sits very close to the dock, and talks to everyone that walks by.

I think his vocabulary must be at least 20 or 30 words. I could hear him shouting at someone from the end of the nearby pier. It was quite entertaining. I keep wanting to see if he can say Dunedin Marina, but have not had the opportunity.

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Pier Fishing

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Pier Fishing While it may not be a large pier, and it may not be in the middle of an awesome fishing spot, it is still a very nice pier, and an easy to get to pier. So it happened that I was out the Dunedin Marina Pier just yesterday evening. As I went about the business of capturing life in bytes, this woman arrived and set herself up and started fishing. I wondered how it would be there, the fishing, as I am not a great fisherman myself.

Lo and behold, before ten minutes had elapsed she was reeling in a fish! It was not, however, a big, beautiful, take-it-home-and-cook-it-for-dinner kind of fish. But it was more than I had caught the last time I went fishing! If you are wondering, yes, it was a very gray day.

Dunedin, Florida: Green Bug at Dunedin Marina

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Green VW Volkswagon Bug at Dunedin Marina What we drive. Yes, another VW Bug. I can't help it. I see them, I must photograph them! It's just that pathologically simple. Hee hee hee. This one was at the Dunedin Marina. I was creeping around taking pictures after dark. Nice bug, nice little bug.

Seriously though, I grew up with these cars, and they have a special place in my heart. I owned one of my own, many years ago. It brought back fond memories of riding in the ones owned by my Grandparents, and then my parents. I would take a VW Bug just about any day of the week. And yes, I still hope to own another one some day. And YES, you will see more of these pictures, because when I see one, I am GOING to snap it! :)

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: "It Was A Cold And Windy Night"

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina, Cold, Windy Night It was a cold and windy night. The shrouds of the sailboats whistled and moaned in the cold, cold breezes. The marina was alive with the restless jostling of craft both large and small. Somewhere in the distance a siren wailed. Near at hand a low creaking sound. Perhaps a piling coming loose, perhaps a dock failing under the pressure of pounding waves. Palm fronds all pointing the one direction, away, away, away from the terrible cold, away from the unrelenting pressure.

Wintry weather has returned to remind us of the calendar's unavoidable rule. It is January. It is not a time of balmy breezes and warm sunny skies. It is time for cold, and wind, and gray. Well, at least as much as it gets like that here in Florida.

Dunedin Florida: Downtown Places I'd Like To Eat: Sea Sea Riders

Dunedin Florida: Downtown Places I'd Like To Eat: Sea Sea Riders This is a place that has caught my eye because I think it just looks so neat. I have never eaten there, and I don't recall ever hearing anyone's opinion of it. So I have to add it to my list of places I look forward to trying. It is called Sea Sea Riders Restaurant. They even have a website, so you can check out the menu if you like.

Regarding location, Sea Sea Riders is just about a half block from the Dunedin Marina and about a block from the Main Street Downtown area. That would put it about two blocks from the Dunedin Trail, so it would not be too far out of the way if you are enjoying the trail when you decide it's time for lunch.

If you would like to see more of the area, check out Clearwater Beach Daily Photo and Clearwater Daily Photo. If you enjoy photography for the sake of photography, check out my photo blog. (Oh, hey, did you bookmark this page yet?)

Dunedin Florida: The Patriotic Spirit is Alive and Well

Duendin Florida: Patriot VW Bug Painted Like The US Flag I spotted this VW Bug parked near the Dunedin Marina when I was walking back from the Dunedin Downtown Old Fashioned Christmas event. I have been looking forward to posting it ever since. I love this picture for so many reasons.

Let's review: First, it is a Volkswagen Beetle (Bug), and I LOVE VW Bugs! We've had numerous Bugs in my family over the course of the last three generations, and I would drive one again in a heartbeat. My own first was a '64 that ran on a 6 volt electric system.

Second, the way this baby is painted and decorated is AWESOME. I love the United States flag design. It's wonderful. And if you look closely, there are rope lights all over it. I just wish I could have gotten a picture of it while it was lit up. Not to mention the decal on the front window that says Greyhound Taxi.

Third, and finally, the front license plate. This is a license plate you can only get from Florida Blood Services. And what is the big deal there? Well, it recognizes the owner for having donated 26 GALLONS of blood! That is an enormous amount of blood donated. If you take it a step further, that means this person has saved a lot of lives!

Winter Water Activities in Dunedin, Florida

Winter Water Activities in Dunedin, FloridaMy last several posts, featuring scenes of Christmas Celebrations in Downtown Dunedin have met with delight at the realization that many people are wearing shorts in those photos. I am sensing a lot of desire for warm weather and sunshine. So, because this is why people relocate to, or vacation in, Florida and the Dunedin area, I am starting a series today of sunny winter fun.

The photo above was taken from side street just a few blocks north of Downtown Dunedin, just north of the Dunedin Marina. I have never seen this spinnaker before. But it is a pretty little craft, and certainly speaks to the spirit of Florida Living. It looks like fun, doesn't it?

The body of water they are sailing upon is called St. Joseph Sound by some people, or Clearwater Harbor by others, and makes up part of the Intracoastal Waterway . The trees in the background are on Caladesi Island, which is also Caladesi Island State Park. To get to the Gulf Of Mexico from here, you either go a little further south to Clearwater Pass, or you go a little north to Hurricane Pass. In fact, over the next several days, I will bring you more images of sunny winter water fun along the Dunedin Causeway, including boating activity in Hurricane Pass.

Dunedin Marina - Moonlight Paddle Launch

In recognition of our summer-like temps (high of 82F), I offer up this archive picture from a moonlight paddle sponsored by a local kayak outfitter, Osprey Bay Outdoors. We launched from Dunedin Marina in the evening, just a little while before sunset. Then we paddled to a spoil island less than a mile from the launch for a Jimmy Buffet, Margaritaville style party. We all had drinks, burgers, hot dogs and s'mores while we watched the sun go down. Then we partied for a while, and paddled back to the Dunedin Marina under a brilliant moon, arriving around midnight. It was a lot of fun. And hey, it's Florida, that's why we live here, isn't it?

You can't see my boat in this shot, but it looks very much like the third one from the left. It's a Dirigo 120, by Old Town. You can see the Old Town information about it here. It's not a real fancy boat, but I love it just the same. This area is perfect for kayaking, with rivers, bays, harbors and the Gulf of Mexico all nearby. Of course, the weather makes it enjoyable just about all year round.
A Spoil Island across from the Dunedin Marina
And here I borrow a great idea from my fellow blogger in Brasov, Romania, including some satellite images from Google Earth. Modern technology is AWESOME! The picture on the left is the spoil island we visited for the party. The middle image is the Dunedin Marina. The image on the right shows both the Marina and the spoil island, so you can get a little bit of an idea of the distance. Click to enlarge.

Dunedin FL Downtown Pt II - Entrance

Welcome to Downtown Dunedin Florida! This welcoming entrance brings you into the area that I posted a photo of earlier. It is one of those downtown areas that has been made so welcoming and attractive that you would enjoy going for a walk here just to experience the feeling, as if all the dining and shopping choices we not even there :). But you might want to consider a Downtown Dunedin lunch while you are here! When you come to Dunedin, or the Greater Tampa Bay area, you will want to visit Dunedin's Downtown!

Logistically speaking, this area is less than a mile from the Dunedin Marina, Dunedin City Hall, Mease Dunedin Hospital, and lots of beautiful housing and Dunedin real estate (Lots of which I will be posting on this site in the future). Not to mention a wonderful waterfront trail for walking, biking or skating.

Veterans Day - Dunedin FL

This is a Veterans Memorial monument in Dunedin, FL. It is located at the Dunedin Marina. I could have posted a picture of a downtown street scene, or some clouds, or some kids playing, and felt the same respect and gratitude for the veterans that have served our country. Because it is all about freedom. The freedom for children to play without fear, the freedom to walk down the street enjoying a conversation with a friend, the freedom to just lie on your back in a public park and watch the clouds pass by over head. I enjoy the opportunity to live free, and to enjoy all these things and more. And I thank you, Veterans of America, who have secured this freedom for us through your sacrifice and dedication.

More Dunedin Housing?

This beauty resides at the Dunedin Marina. And although I cannot be certain that she is being used as a live aboard, it certainly is an option in this area. It really is a beautiful boat, and her name is Regard. Now, for fun, check out the name of the dinghy stowed on top of the cabin... Or if you cannot afford a boat this nice, perhaps you could live in one of the condo's in the background. After all, you would not be living on a beautiful boat, but you would have great views of lots of beautiful boats (without all the upkeep). It is a thought, isn't it?
