I came across this sign as I walked around Lake Paloma recently. As I read it, I suddenly got the sensation that I was being watched. Quickly, I checked my feet to make sure they were not standing on a survey marker. I did NOT want to be construed as having endangered the survey marker. That's when a voice bellowed from the bushes, "HALT! Who goes there?!?!"
No, not really... but hey, it could happen! Really though, it's interesting to see this sign. When I bought 45 acres on a mountainside in Washington State, the corners were marked with things like GIANT TREES, and when you hiked through the woods to them, you scrabbled around in the fallen leaves below to find a not-very-well-marked steel pipe or concrete monument. What fun. It's not like that in the city.

ReplyDeletesometimes these signs just make you wonder...
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting. it's rather ugly really but I suppose necessary - I'd rather trees with a hidden steel pipe somewhere as you describe!
ReplyDeleteHaha... I wonder, how will you know if the marker is endangered? hmm... :P

ReplyDeleteExcellent and interesting shot! I agree this sign is quite intimidating and weird. Besides, not quite attractive.
ReplyDeleteWe wish you a wonderful year ahead.
Wouldn't it suffice to say "please do not remove the marker"?
ReplyDeleteNo, probably that would just encourage someone to remove it.
A great picture and caption.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how a survey marker looks like. So I looked up on google images. "if location of this mark is endangered" - meaning if someone moved it? How would you know that it is moved from the original position?
ReplyDeleteHmm, too many questions.
BTW, I have always wondered how they fence property on mountainsides, especially steep ones. It seems so difficult to do.
