Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina Pier Fishing

While it may not be a large pier, and it may not be in the middle of an awesome fishing spot, it is still a very nice pier, and an easy to get to pier. So it happened that I was out the Dunedin Marina Pier just yesterday evening. As I went about the business of capturing life in bytes, this woman arrived and set herself up and started fishing. I wondered how it would be there, the fishing, as I am not a great fisherman myself.

Lo and behold, before ten minutes had elapsed she was reeling in a fish! It was not, however, a big, beautiful, take-it-home-and-cook-it-for-dinner kind of fish. But it was more than I had caught the last time I went fishing! If you are wondering, yes, it was a very gray day.

Dunedin, Florida: Green Bug at Dunedin Marina

What we drive. Yes, another VW Bug. I can't help it. I see them, I must photograph them! It's just that pathologically simple. Hee hee hee. This one was at the Dunedin Marina. I was creeping around taking pictures after dark. Nice bug, nice little bug.

Seriously though, I grew up with these cars, and they have a special place in my heart. I owned one of my own, many years ago. It brought back fond memories of riding in the ones owned by my Grandparents, and then my parents. I would take a VW Bug just about any day of the week. And yes, I still hope to own another one some day. And YES, you will see more of these pictures, because when I see one, I am GOING to snap it! :)

Dunedin, Florida: What We Drive: Black Pearl Pirate Jeep Wrangler

Okay Jeep Wranglers are, generally, kind of cool. Or at least, let's suppose that is true for the moment. (I actually never owned one myself, I went straight from All-American hot-rod muscle cars to practical vehicles like SUV's and pickup trucks). Then add to that the very cool looking skull and crossed swords on the spare tire cover. THEN throw in the name "Black Pearl" (Can you say "Pirates of the Caribbean"?). Now what have you got? A pretty cool looking Jeep Wrangler. It's what we drive, some of us.

Dunedin, Florida: Trees Need Love Too

I found this incredible example of Trees In Love near Lake Paloma. I have seen some interesting Tree Love before, but this is the most extreme. The Oak has completely encircled the Palm tree. Talk about a heart breaker... the Palm tree has died.

If you click and enlarge the photo, you can see one of our local lizards hanging head-down on the Palm trunk, just below the Oak circlet. If you are cruising Dunedin, this tree is just off San Christopher Dr., near the Coca-Cola facility.

Dunedin, Florida: Dunedin Marina: "It Was A Cold And Windy Night"

It was a cold and windy night. The shrouds of the sailboats whistled and moaned in the cold, cold breezes. The marina was alive with the restless jostling of craft both large and small. Somewhere in the distance a siren wailed. Near at hand a low creaking sound. Perhaps a piling coming loose, perhaps a dock failing under the pressure of pounding waves. Palm fronds all pointing the one direction, away, away, away from the terrible cold, away from the unrelenting pressure.

Wintry weather has returned to remind us of the calendar's unavoidable rule. It is January. It is not a time of balmy breezes and warm sunny skies. It is time for cold, and wind, and gray. Well, at least as much as it gets like that here in Florida.

Another neat little home in Dunedin. Just down the street, off the main road, in a quiet little neighborhood of smaller homes. This one appears to be even smaller than the one posted Saturday.

It looks as though the front lawn might need some TLC. I like that it has a porch, though. I think that is important to make a house a welcome home. Isn't that right, Felicia? :)

Dunedin, Florida: Bed & Breakfast; The Meranova Guest Inn

This is just small taste of what the beautiful Bed & Breakfast, The Meranova Guest Inn, looks like. For the real downtown experience in Dunedin, Florida, staying in the Meranova is a great choice. This beautiful place is smack dab in the middle of the Downtown Dunedin.

From the Meranova, you are in walking distance from lots of wonderful places to shop, eat, or just enjoy. From the Dunedin Marina to Pioneer Park and more. There are galleries, gift shops, restaurants all around. Some that we have mentioned here before include Cafe Alfresco, The Black Pearl, Casa Tina, and Deli News Cafe (not mentioned before).

I can't say I have ever stayed there, but it looked great when I walked around the place. So you might just want to check out their website if you are making plans to visit Dunedin or the Clearwater area. Just a thought.
