Dunedin Florida - Old Fashioned Christmas Fun & Food

Dunedin Florida: Old Fashioned Christmas: Children On Train Dunedin Florida: Old Fashioned Christmas: Children With Old Fashioned ToysDid I mention all the fun for the kids? They had a children's craft booth, a place they could make their own s'mores. There were old fashioned toys like the hoop, and the walking cans and even stilts! As if all that were not cool enough, they had a train running up and down Main Street, just for the kids! Way cool!

Of course, you may be asking yourself "But what about Santa Claus, Wayne, where was he?" Well, he was there alright. The top left picture in the table below shows one of his helper Elves. If you look closely just left of the Elf's hat, in about the middle of the picture (click on it to enlarge it), you will see his face peeking through the mob. That's right, he was there, but if you were not a determined parent with a child in tow, you were NOT getting near him! :D

I am wrapping up the series on the Old Fashioned Christmas in Downtown Dunedin, Florida, with the table of pictures below. Click on them for large, easy to enjoy, images. There is one on the bottom left of the horse and carriage ride that was available. The other four give you an idea of the variety of edibles that were available. Just getting this post ready is making me hungry all over again. The booths included Funnel Cakes, Chick-Fil-A, Papa John's Pizza, and Kettle Korn, just to name a few.

This was a great event for anyone here on a Florida vacation, scouting relocation to Dunedin, or even just out for a nice evening with the family. An excellent event for locals and visitors alike.

Dunedin Florida - Old Fashioned Christmas Live Entertainment

Dunedin Florida - Old Fashioned Christmas Live Entertainment There was no lack of live entertainment at the Old Fashioned Christmas event! Dunedin, Florida did it again, with a wide variety of live entertainment, sprinkled all up and down the street. Everyone enjoyed the music, each of us having a favorite of the evening. Mine was the duo above, The Moon Glow Duo they are called. Excellent, mellow music. Wonderful Christmas cheer. So I bought one of their CD's, and have enjoyed it very much indeed. So, you want to know more, eh? Click here to see their MySpace page, and listen to some of their music.

But I also enjoyed the accordion player at Bellini's too. He was playing Christmas music, but of course, with an accordion, it sounds so delightfully Italian! There was a man playing a keyboard near the Children's Area, but there was so much noise there I could not even hear him. Poor guy. And there was a Scotsman playing bagpipe near Cafe Alfresco. You could not miss the sound of those pipes! Wow. It was neat stuff. I listened for a while, and then decided I needed to share his picture with you.

One last note... to all my fellow bloggers that I normally visit every day. The hours are killing me. Have not seen bed before 1:30am for weeks (up before 6am). So although I will visit each day, I will only be able to comment every 2nd or 3rd day. Thanks for understanding.

Dunedin Florida - Dunedin Causeway Bridge

Dunedin Florida - Dunedin Causeway BridgeHappy December 1st! Today we celebrate the City Daily Photo theme: Bridges. After dark photography has caught my fancy of late, so I wanted to share this after dark bridge image with you. Kudos to my Nikon D80, again! This is the Dunedin Causeway Bridge. And that is a Great Blue Heron in the foreground (click the photo to enlarge it).

There is so much that goes on from this causeway, and under and around this bridge, that I cannot cover it all in one manageable post. So today I will cover the basics. Dunedin Causeway ends on Honeymoon Island. Which is where you will find Honeymoon Island State Park. From that state park, you can take a ferry to another state park, Caladesi Island State Park.

Caladesi Island used to be accessible by ferry or private boat only. In 1985, Hurricane Elena closed the narrow pass to the south of the island (Not to be confused with Hurricane Pass, at the north end of the island). As a result, you can actually walk onto Caladesi Island from the north end of Clearwater Beach (But trust me, it's a long way from where you would have to park your car!). These two islands are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, if not the entire world. So yes, if you are visiting Dunedin or Clearwater or the area in general, you should at least drive out to the end of the causeway, and go for a walk on Honeymoon Island!

The image below is from Google Earth, and shows the Dunedin Causeway from an altitude of about 8,000 feet. The bridge in the photo above is at the right in the image below. Honeymoon Island is just out of frame to the left. ** Click the names if you would like to see my bridge posts on the Clearwater Daily Photo site, or the Clearwater Beach Daily Photo site.

Dunedin Florida - The Fenway On The Bay

This is the Fenway On The Bay resort hotel. It is located in Dunedin, Florida, on Edgewater Drive, where I showed you this home, and that home. It opened in 1925, and is now the subject of a campaign to save it. See the photo below. You can check out the Save The Fenway website here.

This photograph was taken right at sunset, so the building's sunset color was accentuated even further. It is a beautiful old part of Dunedin's history. In fact, as you will read on the Save The Fenway website, the first ever radio broadcast in Pinellas County (that's where we are), was broadcast from the Fenway during opening ceremonies! It's cool stuff, complete with lots of photos. Check it out.

A picture of the sign that alerted me to the campaign, and a second photo of the Fenway, with less 'sunset' on it.

Dunedin Florida Downtown Shops

A neat little shop called The Enchanted Branch Gift Gallery. Click the name to see a little more about them. They are located just a few steps off Main Street in a delightful side street with several other shops of similar style. You might say it is an extension of Main Street, at right angles.

I hope you all had a great day yesterday. We celebrated Thanksgiving, and the whole family had a wonderful time. Whether you celebrate Thankgsiving or not, I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday, and I hope today is even better.

I hope you will take some time to explore Downtown Dunedin when you are in the area. There is enough here to enjoy for days and days.

Dunedin Main Street Shops

This will probably end up being a series also, in as much as there are a number of neat shops that I want to share with you. I believe the name of this shop is Palm Latitudes, and it fits! They have all kinds of cool stuff in there. Ceramic frogs that look so cool and awesome pirate t-shirts and napkins with funny sayings... you know the kind that have you standing there reading them for twenty minutes while you laugh your butt off! And lots and lots more stuff. Really cool. I rarely make it past this store when I am downtown. It is just too much fun. If you remember Cafe Alfresco, from a previous posting, then it will make sense when I tell you this shop is just down the sidewalk from there. But don't worry if that doesn't make sense to you... just get downtown and you will find it all. :) Oh, and yes, Brasov Daily Photo, the bench will be there waiting for you, on the waterfront.

Dunedin Florida Downtown - Pt I

Dunedin has a really quaint, welcoming downtown area. They have done a lot to make it a great place to walk and enjoy the ambiance. This is just a little taste of that area. I will be back to capture more of this area for you. The shops are great, whether you are looking for fine jewelry or some touristy trinkets. In fact the same can be said for eating in this area too. More on that soon. If you are considering a relocation, Dunedin Florida is a great place to live. You have great access to all sorts of lifestyle activities, and wonderful shops and neighborhoods to enjoy. Keep coming back, and I will show you more and more of Dunedin.
