Dunedin, Florida: Honeymoon Island Ferry To Caladesi Island If you are feeling like something a little more exotic than just sitting on the beach at Honeymoon Island State Park, you might like to take the ferry over to Caladesi Island State Park.

The Ferry runs regularly all day. Caladesi Island has no access other than by private boat or the Ferry. Or rather, that used to be the case, until a hurricane closed the narrow pass that separated the island from North Clearwater Beach. So now you can walk to Caladesi, but it is a long, long walk from the nearest public parking!

Dunedin, Florida: Transportation: Mixed Modes It's not uncommon to see the odd scooter parked here and there around Dunedin these days. With the media prepping us for the Conspiracy to jack our gas prices higher and higher, more people are desperate to find a cheaper ride.

But it IS uncommon to see snow skies parked against a fence around here. Let's face it... WE DON'T GET SNOW! So, I cannot tell a lie... I am totally confounded as to why those skies are parked there!

A funny thing happened on the way to the Blog... So, I see this gorgeous car, and I stop and start taking pictures. Suddenly, the driver's door pops open and this man gets out, stops, and looks at me as if to say "Gee, I give up... what the HECK are you doing?"

I had to laugh out loud as I told him I thought his car was beautiful and I couldn't resist taking a picture of it. That melted him pretty fast. He was thrilled at my adoration of his car.

Dunedin, Florida: Sawgrass Lake Park: Baby Alligators! I was reminded recently that I had mentioned posting pictures of these baby gators when I posted a picture of their mother, back on the 6th of this month. So I am getting caught up in this post. On a recent field trip to Sawgrass Lake Park, we had great luck spotting these alligators and other wildlife.

If you look closely, you can see four baby gators in this picture. They were about a foot long each, and every once in a while one of them would make that little grunting/mewing sound they make to talk to their mother. Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Sign Downtown Dunedin

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Pinellas Trail Sign Downtown Dunedin One of the things I like about publishing this daily photo blog, one of the things that I get out of it, is the refreshed perspective that sometimes jumps out at me from pictures I took.

When I snapped this image, I was intent on getting the man on the bicycle passing under the Pinellas Trail sign. That was my 'focus' at that moment. Later, when I was reviewing the images from that day's snapping, I got more out of it. Now I see a quaint, cozy, inviting downtown area that makes me want to spend more time there, when I look at this photograph. Downtown Dunedin is always like that, but it's easy to forget sometimes when 'life gets in the way'. Does that happen to you?

Dunedin, Florida: Delightful Dunedin Downtown Is Pedestrian Friendly If you are in the mood for a fine Downtown Dunedin Lunch, remember you can park easier now that the public parking lot is open again. That restores the pedestrian friendly nature of this area, as you can park your car and walk about comfortably. Even the egret, seen in this picture, seems to get the pedestrian thing.

Main Street flows from right to left in this image, and is crossed by the Pinellas Trail where you see the brick crossing. In the background you can see the clock tower peeking out above the trees. Dunedin, Florida: Honeymoon Island Sunset #3

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Honeymoon Island Sunset #3 It seems like it has been a while since I posted a sunset. So I reached back in time to post this one. Hopefully, I will find time to enjoy another sunset soon.

I never have figured out why I find sunsets so magical, or significant. In many ways, it is just the end of another day. Well, at least to the person watching the sunset. To someone else, around the globe, our sunset is actually their sunrise. Could it be that on some level we realize that a sunset is an incredible celestial event that represents moving objects so large and powerful that we can barely conceive of them? After all, compared to the sun, we are no more than little bits of dust floating in the heavens.

Dunedin, Florida: ROAD TRIP! Skyway Bridge Crossing First, I really must thank those of you who noticed I had not posted in a couple of days. I felt really bad about it, but I was heartened by the nice inquiries I received as to my status, and hopeful I was continuing the Dunedin Daily Photo. Thank you very much. Yes, I am continuing. But I have been truant I am afraid.

Also, I would like to thank all of you who stop in to see the latest postings. I am flattered that you check out my website, and truly honored to have a place in your busy days. Thank you. If you are some of those who leave comments, many more thanks to you again. It is nice to get comments that give me an idea if I have touched your life, or even just provided some decent distraction from life for a few minutes. Thanks!

So, we went on a little road trip! We headed down south to Sarasota to see the beautiful Selby Gardens. It was wonderful. I took lots of pictures, and some of them might even be worth posting here! But I know so many of you have heard about, if not actually crossed, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, so I wanted to post this photo of it from Wednesday as we headed south. Dunedin, Florida: Stalking The White Ibis At Lake Paloma I had gone on a birding photo safari at Lake Paloma earlier this year, and while reviewing previous snapping results, found this shot. If you view it at full size by clicking on it, you might get an idea of the intimacy I felt when I saw this group of mature and immature White Ibis.

These are lovely, stately birds whose presence always makes me feel serene. They will calmly 'graze' their way across a front yard, and down the street, then take flight so quickly and glide overhead like a flashback to the days of early Egypt. I love to see them around.

Dunedin, Florida: Nature Always Wins... Eventually

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Nature Always Wins... Eventually It's true you know... If we all just disappeared, nature would eventually overcome every thing we have done, and most signs of our existence would simply vanish. As strange as it may sound, I find some comfort in that. To me, that means as much as we might, as a species, wreck this little blue ball called Earth, it might just be able to recover one day.

Whether that will be after we have killed ourselves off, or after we have really come to our senses and stopped killing the planet, I don't know. I guess I hope we will be able to survive with the planet, instead of us having to die off in order for the planet to survive.

Dunedin, Florida: Bike Riding Quiet Guy

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Bike Riding Quiet Guy I always try to get out of my office for a little while each day, to get some fresh air and take a walk. I usually go around the same time. It really helps to get out and get moving. I guess it gets the blood pumping, and all the right chemicals feeding into my brain.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have seen this same old man riding his bicycle. Some days it is a blue tricycle, other days a green bicycle. The strange thing is that he just will not say hello. I mean it. The first few times we passed, I always nodded and said hi or good morning. He would just look at me and look away again. So now I just look at him, and he just looks at me, and that's that. I suppose it would just ruin everything if he said hello to me.

PS. Happy Thursday. When is the last time you told the people you love that you love them?

Dunedin, Florida: FIELD TRIP! Sawgrass Lake Park

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: FIELD TRIP! Sawgrass Lake Park St. Petersburg GATOR! DW and I took an impromptu mini-vacation Sunday, and spent a few hours at Sawgrass Lake Park, in St. Petersburg. It is a really beautiful place. It's amazing to think that it exists here, in the middle of this densely populated county.

St. Petersburg is just about 15 or 20 minutes south of Dunedin, and it is really easy to find this park. This is actually not even the first alligator we saw at the park. I have some other pictures to share, perhaps, of the babies we saw too. But this shot was such a nice clear image of this wonderful animal. I'd say it was about 5 or 6 feet long. We were watching safely from a position on the deck, about 4 or 5 feet above.

All in all that day, we saw three adult alligators of about this size, 4 baby alligators that were about a foot long, a GIANT soft-shelled turtle, and a wide variety of other wildlife. It was an awesome holiday away from chores and work and worries.

Dunedin, Florida: Walking With Crows

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Walking With Crows Crows. While enjoying a short walk the other day, I noticed I had company. It seemed weird. I mean, crows are all around us, yes, but it seemed as though they acknowledged my presence. What does it mean, I wondered.

I got no answer, of course, but I wondered just the same. When suddenly you seem to be surrounded by crows, what are they up to? Are they just curious? Are they watching because they know something about me I don't know? Or is it because they sense a kindred troubled soul?

Happy Monday.

Dunedin, Florida: Fenway History: Schiller International University

Dunedin, Florida: Fenway History: Schiller International University Somewhere in the long and storied history of the Fenway Hotel, it was once occupied by one campus of the Schiller International University. The University has since moved on, or closed down, I don't know which. If you've been here before you might have read a little bit about the Fenway being restored.

But when it was Schiller International University, they painted some neat murals on the walls of some of the classroom buildings toward the back of the property. I happened to snap some of those murals one day when I was invited onto the property to take pictures. Pretty neat stuff, don't you think?

Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Finale: Bridges To Cross

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Finale: Bridges To Cross It's true, we all have bridges to cross. Many of them, in fact, throughout our lifetimes. I couldn't help but notice the two bridges I came across in Hammock Park, and wonder about all the bridges in my life.

On a larger scale, you could say that we, as a country, have a bridge to cross, and that we, as a species (Man) have many bridges to cross in the future. Some of them worry me.

Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Trail: Look Up!

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Trail: Look Up! Before I forget, I want to say, again, don't forget to LOOK UP! Look up and see more and more of the world around you. Look up and see wonders that are there to be fascinated by.

I once read a quote that was ascribed to a famous architect: "God is in the details." I have never forgotten that. When I look up and see the amazing intricacy of all these leaves and their branches that get smaller and smaller as they grow out from the trunk of this beautiful tree, I can believe that some sort of amazing power is at work there.

By the same token, seeing all these myriad leaves reminds me what a big world it is, and how easy it is to be lost among so many numbers. A forest of leafy trees is a good analogy for the internet. When one considers that a web page is like a single leaf on a tree in a forest of a million trees, each with thousands and thousands of leaves, it's amazing to consider that you found your way here to my web page. I'm glad you made it! Thanks for coming!

Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Trail Lunchtime Hike Bridge

Click for larger picture in a new window
Dunedin, Florida: Hammock Park Trail Lunchtime Hike Bridge Ah yes, we all have our bridges to cross, don't we? Well, I crossed this one happily, lost in the dense 'forests' of Hammock Park. No, it was not difficult, it barely qualifies as a bridge, but I certainly enjoyed getting to the other side.

What about you? How goes the bridge crossing? I guess, depending on what is going on in your life, there are plenty of bridges to represent the varying degrees of difficulty or triumph of your endeavor. This one might stand for just getting to work on time, and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, that spans the mouth of Tampa Bay, might represent beating breast cancer. How about you, what's your latest bridge look like?
