Dunedin Florida - The Fenway On The Bay

This is the Fenway On The Bay resort hotel. It is located in Dunedin, Florida, on Edgewater Drive, where I showed you this home, and that home. It opened in 1925, and is now the subject of a campaign to save it. See the photo below. You can check out the Save The Fenway website here.

This photograph was taken right at sunset, so the building's sunset color was accentuated even further. It is a beautiful old part of Dunedin's history. In fact, as you will read on the Save The Fenway website, the first ever radio broadcast in Pinellas County (that's where we are), was broadcast from the Fenway during opening ceremonies! It's cool stuff, complete with lots of photos. Check it out.

A picture of the sign that alerted me to the campaign, and a second photo of the Fenway, with less 'sunset' on it.

  1. That looks like a very beautiful building. It would be a shame to not restore it.

  2. What a tragedy if Florida were to lose this beautiful building. Seems impossible to imagine this. I suppose beautiful old buildings are knocked down to make way for more rooms per square metre. Progress!

    Beautiful photograph, Wayne.

  4. What a beautiful building. The color, just as the buildings in Rome, serve to enhance the sunlight. It must look like a melting gold pot in the sun.

  5. The Fenway is a striking building and so colorful too. Like the script style and pediment outline. The front looks like it has a type of walkway or breezeway. Looking forward to knowing more about the restoration efforts.

  8. As I mentioned to Kate on her site, I love old hotels because they have such a charm that the new ones don't. Beautiful photo, Wayne!

Thanks, also, for your nice words about my Battle of Franklin "book." I'm learning a lot about it, too, and just love passing it on.

  10. I'm really suprised that no private investor is interested in restoring the Fenway. I realize how bad the Florida private real estate market is currently, but I thought the commercial real estate was still healthy...

Lovely building and your photo does it justice :-)

  12. Great picture of a remarkable building. When I am in St. Pete I sometimes stay at the Vinoy. As you may know this beautiful 1925ish building stood empty for several years before it was redeveloped into the first class place it is today. So take heart.

It also looks like I will be in St. Pete next week on business so I will try to make the trip to Dunedin. Any restaurant recommendations?

It is a shame that we live in such a "disposable" world.....I hope it is saved!

  16. Well, I keep closing the window without clicking "publish" first. Sigh... What I had said is that I like this photo of the Fenway with more sunset on it better.
